Swampscott Dory

SWAMPSCOTT DORY
Designed by Iain Oughtred, Amberjack and John Dory are sleek, modern interpretations of the Swampscott dory. The Swampscott family of dories was developed by fishermen who worked off the beach. They needed a seaworthy boat that could handle launchings and landings in heavy surf. They were faster under oars and sail than the more familiar Grand Banks dory, and were popularized as yachtsmen began to develop these workboats into a racing class. Oughtred has re-developed this traditional design to be suitable for glued lapstrake plywood construction.
Amberjack and John Dory are available in both rowing and sailing versions.
