Building the Bouchie Dory, Episode 7. It’s time to start building the frames for our boat. We’ll be covering this topic over two episodes. The frames provide critical lateral structure connecting the sides to the bottom of the boat. Some people refer to frames as ribs and some make the distinction of ribs being only steam bent while frames are sawn. In this case we are using sawn frames and they are composed of two other elements we call floors,, which span the bottom of the boat and gussets which connect the the parts together and provide stiffness and structure. The Gussets are made out of two pieces of 6mm marine plywood and should be thoroughly sealed with un-thickened epoxy to ensure longevity.
